A private email-management application
Darwin MailOS is a personal, single-user application that helps its owner review, organize, classify and summarize email. It runs on the owner's own computer, is used only by the owner, and is not offered as a service or product to the public.
Current phase: Gmail read-only. Darwin MailOS requests one Google permission, View your email messages and settings (the gmail.readonly scope). It reads mail to triage it; it does not send, delete, archive, label, move, mark or otherwise modify Gmail messages.
What it does
The owner connects one Gmail account. Darwin MailOS then:
- reads recent inbox messages and, every few minutes, the mailbox change history, so new mail is noticed;
- sorts each message into a small set of attention categories (needs a reply, needs an action, waiting on someone, important for information, routine notification, promotion or newsletter, ignore), using local rules first and an AI assistant only when the rules cannot decide;
- writes short summaries, notes deadlines and commitments, and prepares draft replies that the owner reviews in a private chat before deciding anything;
- sends the owner a daily private digest of what needs attention.
| Capability | Current phase |
|---|---|
| Read message headers, labels and content | read-only, only for the owner's connected account |
| Send email | no sending scope is requested, and no send function exists |
| Create drafts inside Gmail | draft replies stay inside Darwin MailOS for the owner's review |
| Delete, trash, archive or move messages | not requested, not implemented |
| Add, remove or change labels; mark read or unread | not requested, not implemented |
| Change Gmail settings, filters or forwarding | not requested, not implemented |
| Download attachments | only the file name, type and size are recorded; attachment content is never downloaded |
How it treats your data
- Google data is accessed only under the read-only scope and only for the owner's own connected mailbox.
- Mail is stored and processed on the owner's computer. Full message content is held in a temporary local cache for at most 72 hours; the database keeps identifiers, hashes, sorting results and short summaries, not message bodies.
- After the owner has opted in, minimized text from ordinary messages may be sent to AI assistant services the owner subscribes to, for classification, summaries and draft replies. Messages that look financial, medical, legal, identity-related or otherwise sensitive are kept local and never sent to an AI service.
- Google user data is never sold, never used for advertising, and never shared with anyone other than the processors described in the Privacy Policy.
- Access can be revoked at any time from the owner's Google Account; Darwin MailOS then stops reading mail immediately.
Read the Privacy Policy, which describes how Darwin MailOS accesses, uses, stores and shares Google user data.
